Spiritual Jordan
Duration
9 Days / 8 Nights
About This Tour
This nine-day pilgrimage tour traces the Christian heritage of Jordan from north to south, visiting churches, monasteries and biblical sites that have drawn travellers for centuries. The route moves through six key destinations over eight nights: Amman, Ajloun with its hilltop castle and Byzantine church ruins, the Roman and early-Christian city of Jerash, the historic village of Anjarah, the Baptism Site of Jesus at Bethany Beyond the Jordan and the Dead Sea shore.
At Ajloun, the tour visits Anjarah and Tel Mar Elias — the ruins of the Byzantine church traditionally associated with St Elias the Prophet — before descending to Jerash, where Roman colonnades stand alongside the foundations of early-Christian basilicas. The Baptism Site, a UNESCO World Heritage Site on the eastern bank of the Jordan River, provides the spiritual centrepiece of the journey. The final nights are spent beside the Dead Sea, whose biblical resonance completes the pilgrimage arc.
Departures run year-round from Amman, with spring (March–May) and cooler autumn months (September–November) offering the most comfortable conditions for walking and site visits. The tour is led by an English-speaking guide with expertise in both Christian history and Jordanian culture. No current price is listed; contact Atlas Tours for group, parish and private-departure quotations.
